This substance exists naturally both in the environment and within the human body.<br data-start=\"461\" data-end=\"464\" \/>In nature, ammonia is produced in the soil through bacterial processes and during the decomposition of organic matter such as plants and animal waste.<br data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"617\" \/>It is highly soluble in water, forming <strong data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"678\">ammonium hydroxide<\/strong>\u2014commonly referred to as <strong data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"721\">liquid ammonia<\/strong>\u2014which easily reverts back to its gaseous state.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"814\"><span style=\"color: #fab943;\"><strong data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"814\">Chemical Formula and Structure<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p data-start=\"816\" data-end=\"1075\">Ammonia, with the chemical formula <strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"858\">NH\u2083<\/strong>, consists of nitrogen and hydrogen. It is a colorless gas with a pungent odor. Its molecule has a <strong data-start=\"957\" data-end=\"989\">trigonal pyramidal structure<\/strong>, containing three hydrogen atoms and one lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom.<\/p><h3
